Where Stories Take Flight

Being part of Walk in Our Shoes was one of the most meaningful creative experiences of my life. Over six months of workshops, I was guided through a process that felt both artistically rigorous and deeply human. From the very beginning, the space created by Sabine (When Cats Fly Creative Company) was one of trust, care, and curiosity - a place where stories were not extracted or shaped for effect, but gently invited, listened to, and honoured.

The workshops allowed time - real time - to explore movement, memory, and personal truth without pressure or judgment. As a performer, I felt supported to take risks, to be vulnerable, and to grow not just as an artist, but as a person. The process fostered a strong sense of ensemble, where each voice mattered and where collaboration felt genuine rather than imposed.

Performing Walk in Our Shoes at Chocolate Garden in Siem Reap on 5 & 6 December 2025 was profoundly moving. The intimate, natural setting amplified the work's honesty, and stepping into the performance felt less like "acting" and more like sharing something precious with the audience. Each night, there was a tangible sense of connection - moments of silence, stillness, and collective breath that reminded me why live performance matters.

What struck me most was witnessing how the audience received the work. People didn't just watch; they leaned in emotionally. Many shared afterward how deeply seen they felt, how the stories resonated with their own lives, and how the experience stayed with them long after leaving the space. It was clear that the careful balance of storytelling, movement, music, and pacing allowed the work to hold emotional depth without ever becoming overwhelming.

Walk in Our Shoes is more than a performance - it is a compassionate, courageous invitation to empathy. I am deeply grateful to have been part of a process that placed humanity at its centre and trusted both performers and audiences with that responsibility. When Cats Fly Creative Company has a rare ability to create work that is beautiful, brave, and profoundly connective, and I would wholeheartedly participate again.
